Entrance Depth Danger Alert: High

The marina released its first Newsletter in 7 years last December - a few weeks after SKMC published its first edition of "Reflections".  It was good to finally see some communications from marina management to their own residents, but we've received many questions, comments and complaints from marina residents on the content of their Newsletter.

The fact is that much of the information they have provided is incorrect, and in many cases blatantly untrue.

SKMC Members and marina residents don't understand why marina management would provide information that is inaccurate.

SKMC Members and marina residents don't understand why marina management has allowed the entrance depth situation to deteriorate to the point where despite their promises, newsletter and signage, boats are still literally striking bottom, or running aground on a daily basis - and that despite their promises and the information in their newsletter, they have allowed this situation to persist for well over 12 months. One marina resident incurred over $15,000 in damage to his props and shafts when he ran aground at the entrance.

SKMC Members and marina residents also can't understand how Greg Spooner can refuse to accept any responsibility for damage caused to residents boats as a direct result of his own negligence in ensuring a safe and navigable entrance depth - and to add insult to injury, how he can shrug off any liability, and expect residents to claim damages through their own insurance.

SKMC Members and marina residents also can't understand why Greg Spooner (marina manager) is wasting his time and marina resources in a vindictive attempt to cancel SKMC's Manager's berthing agreement, when there are so many more important issues - such as depth and security problems - that require his immediate attention. The fact is if he had addressed these critical issues when they arose years ago, residents wouldn't have any reason to complain about them.

In order to maintain perspective, we've placed comments received from marina residents regarding the articles in the marina's Newsletter.  This has nothing to do with being pedantic, or trying to antagonize marina management.  It's just the unanimous opinion of members that all residents at the marina are entitled to be provided with a high standard of services and entrance depth maintenance by management, and with information that is accurate and truthful, and provided in good faith.

If you click on the view comments icons, on the various articles you can see what SKMC's members and residents think about these issues.

SKMC values the opinions and thoughts of all residents at the marina.  If you'd like to make a comment on any of the articles or issues click here

Below is a copy of the St Kilda Marina Newsletter, as printed and provided to selected marina residents in December 2007. Many SKMC members have reported that they never even received a copy of the marina's newsletter.
